UPDATED INFORMATION: Holbrook Public Schools closed through May 3, 2020

School Closing 03/16/20-03-27/20

This afternoon Governor Baker announced that all Massachusetts schools will stayed closed through May 3rd (with schools hopefully able to resume on May 4th). This news was disappointing, but, not entirely unexpected given the latest news on COVID-19 and the public efforts to combat its spread through social distancing and recommendations by health agencies to stay home whenever possible.

Upon hearing this news, my greatest concern as a parent and as a superintendent was for the  social, emotional health and wellness of our children. From our youngest students who require time to learn their foundational skills, to our seniors who have lost so many of their “last” events, the affects of these school closures has had a huge impact on everyone.

Tonight is the time for a brief announcement acknowledging the extended closure, and for talking with our children and letting them tell us how they are  feeling about all that is happening and Governor Baker’s decision. Keeping communication open and giving our kids a chance to express their frustrations, hopes, fears and confusion over the sudden changes that they have been experiencing  is essential. In the coming days, I will be sending out a Connect-ed message with additional information around such topics as Grab & Go Meals, appointments for picking up student Chromebooks (that were sent out for repair), picking up medicines stored at school, MCAS, Capstone requirements (seniors), AP exams,  graduation, additional academic resources/materials, specialized services, team meetings and ways to keep your child(ren) engaged in learning during the next month. My thoughts are with all of you, your families, and your children. Please know that everyone in the Holbrook Public School Learning Community is committed to helping our families…Together we will find innovative, exciting, unique and unprecedented ways to maintain the commitment we make to our students:

Julie Hamilton
